Og de bar stadig grøntsager ind/ And they kept on bringing vegetables

Vi mødte Maria i går og det var lige før hun undskyldte, at der nok ikke rigtig var noget i haven, hun kunne forære os. Altså ud over kartofler. Alligevel fandt hun også både savoykål og blomkål.





Vores "cementmand", hvor vi i tidens løb har købt så meget cement, brød ud i store smil, da han så os igen og hentede straks en pose kæmpestore grapefrugt. Og så har vi åbenbart fået en ny ven. Han hedder Alberto og er for tiden leveringsdygtig i kasse på kasse med kiwi. Så er det godt at have en engelsk veninde (tak Natalie), som har givet mig en god opskrift på "Kiwi-smør":

1 kg modne uskrællede kiwi, skåret i mindre stykker
750 ml cider eller vand
revet skal og saft af 1 citron
75 g fintrevet ingefær
sukker (400 g pr 500 ml pure)
1 tsk sort peber

Put kiwier, vand (eller cider) og citronsaft i en gryde. Kog, skum og skru ned for blusset og lad det simre i 15 - 20 minutter, indtil frugtkødet er blødt. Si denne blanding gennem en sigte. Mål mængden a pure og tilsæt sukker (se mængden ovenfor). Hæld blandingen tilbage i gryden og tilsæt citronskal, ingefær og peber. Rør til sukkeret er opløst og lad det simre under omrøring i 30 - 35 minutter.
Hæld på rene atamonskyllede glas mens det er varmt.

We met Maria yesterday and she almost apologized that there probably were not really any vegetables in the garden, she could give us. Apart from potatoes. Yet she found also both cabbage and cauliflower.
Our "concreteman" where we have bought a lot of cement during the years, bursted into big smiles when we came to see him in the shop and immediately picked a huge bag of big sweet grapefruits.
Also we seem to have found a new friend. His name is Alberto and currently he has a lot of kiwis. Then it's good to have an English friend (Thank you Natalie) who has given me a wonderful recipe for "Kiwi-butter":

1 kg ripe unpeeled chopped kiwi
750 ml cider or water
Grated zest and juice of 1 lemon
75 g finely grated ginger
sugar (400 g per 500 ml of puree)
1 teaspoon black pepper

Put kiwifruit, water (or cider) and lemon juice in a pot. Bring to boil and then turn down the heat and let simmer for 15 to 20 minutes, until the kiwies are soft. Pass this mixture through a sieve. Measure the amount of puree and add the sugar (seeabove amount). Pour mixture back into the pot and add lemon zest, ginger and pepper. Stir until sugar is dissolved and simmer while stirring for 30 to 35 minutes or until the "butter" has the right consistency.
Pour into warm sterilized jars and seal.

I always feel like the richest woman in the world when people give me fresh fruit and veg from their gardens. Can't wait for the kiwi butter on a little homemade Danish bread at the next knitting session!
