I was working on my "lobster" that will one day become a bag.
Then I came to think about my mother who also did a lot of needle work.
This is my mother 18 years old with drivers license and her own car in 1933! Tough lady! |
Blandt andet lavede hun denne stramaj af restegarn i årene lige før og under 2. verdenskrig.
Among a lot of other things she made this canvas with left over yarn in the years just before and during World War 2.
Se bare her:
Everything was hard to get even freedom of expression but then you could speak through symbols. Have a look:

KAOS, SOS, det danske flag (Dannebrog), ankre og hjerter og meget mere, ja sågar et hagekors KAOS, SOS, the danish flag (Dannebrog), anchors and hearts and a lot of other stuff even a swatika |
Her er min far. Han var politibetjent under 2. verdenskrig. This is my father. He was a police officer during World War 2. |
Her er hans officielle legitimationskort. This is his official ID card |
Instead of obeying orders my father went underground using this false ID card |
It wasa hard time for my parents during the war. While my father was "underground" my mother had to take care of my brother (born 1940) and my sister (borne 1943) alone. She was a hairdresser (maybe she had her own salon?) and was as my father a part of the resistance handing out illegal posters and sometimes weapon.
I was born in 1956 and already in 1965 my father died after having been ill for many years. Today I am sure that he would have been diagnosed with Post traumatic stress disorder. It was unknown in 1965.
Fortunately my mother was in better health and did not die until 2003.

what a beautiful post. I wish I could have met your parents. I really wish your mom could have joined us in the knitting group!
